Some Jewish Wedding Facts: The signing of the ketubah is an important part of the Jewish wedding ceremony. The ketubah is a marriage contract explaining the husbands responsibilities to his wife. It is then given to the bride during the ceremony. Traditionally, Jewish couples are forbidden to live together without having a ketubah and must have a new one made if something happens to the original. This sacred document is usually decorated and displayed in the couples home as art work. Also in traditional Jewish wedding ceremonies, the bride and groom will exchange vows under a chuppah. A chuppah is a canopy made from four poles and a piece of cloth. Often this cloth is beautifully decorated. It symbolizes the new home the couple is creating. |
